Design and construction of the facade, interiors, and garden with a swimming pool
DY House
2019, Szczecin
DY House | A suburban villa in Szczecin designed for a family of four. The house, with a history dating back to the 1920s and having undergone numerous renovations and modernizations, came into the hands of its current owners in 2010—who were drawn to its secluded, almost wooded location in the Osowo district of Szczecin. Following an initial structural renovation, the owners commissioned the ANNA THUROW studio to undertake a complete facade redesign, a comprehensive interior design project, and the design of a swimming pool and garden landscaping—as part of a turnkey project, with the architect’s supervision at every stage.
The proximity of the Arkoński Forest and its pre-war history set the tone for the entire project. The whole design was guided by the concept of a hidden sanctuary—austere and mysterious, blending seamlessly into its surroundings.
The facades, terraces, and garden feature a cohesive material palette based on a dark, subdued color scheme. The dark-stained, thermally treated oak slats used here echo the vertical structures of the surrounding forest and the character of the interiors. The garden, featuring a spacious fire pit and a pool, was designed as a natural extension of the home’s interior, preserving the existing vegetation as the main backdrop of the composition.
The project was developed as a comprehensive turnkey solution encompassing the facades, garden, swimming pool, outdoor features, and interiors featuring custom-designed furniture created specifically for the project.
