Design and construction of a large house and its interiors

DX House

2019–2023, Szczecin

DX House | A single-story single-family home in Szczecin designed for a family of four. The local zoning plan imposed height restrictions and façade details due to the proximity of a historic preservation zone. The functional program was distributed across four partially overlapping volumes with the archetypal form of simple houses—a solution that allowed the spacious interiors to be concealed behind the building’s silhouette while meeting all the plan’s requirements. The slender metal window frames, referencing pre-war architectural details characteristic of this part of Szczecin, also address the conservation requirements.

The facades, clad in hand-molded Danish Petersen Tegl bricks in warm shades of gray, are paired with Thermory thermally treated ash paneling. Panoramic sliding windows and skylights precisely positioned above key areas—the kitchen island, the main hall, and the walk-in closet—fill the interiors with natural light and open them up to the surrounding forests.

The interior is based on a minimalist palette of natural materials: light, brushed oak planks, textured plaster in a light gray tone, and large-format stone slabs with a slate-like texture. The centerpiece of the home is a monolithic quartzite kitchen island—an element that organizes the common space and defines the character of the entire interior. The project was developed as a comprehensive concept encompassing architecture, interiors, the garden, and outdoor furnishings.
