Design and construction of a lakeside vacation home
OS House
2023–2025, Oświno
OS House | This vacation home was built on a fully wooded lot situated directly on the shore of Lake Woświn. The dense forest surroundings and the immediate proximity to the water served as the primary inspiration for the house’s architecture, which evokes traditional lakeside farm buildings but reinterprets them in a contemporary architectural style.
Planning restrictions necessitated a compact functional layout and a compact form. At the center of the house is a fireplace, which serves as the heart of the living space. A staircase wraps around it, organizing the building’s vertical structure and connecting the individual levels. The main space is a double-height living room, illuminated by a monumental window approximately five meters high, which opens the interior to a view of the forest.
The house was built as a custom prefabricated project using glued-laminated timber technology, which allowed for precise construction and minimized disruption to the property’s natural surroundings. The building’s design allows it to be completely enclosed during the off-season, emphasizing its recreational nature.
The absence of traditional eaves has been replaced by deeply recessed, narrow-profile glazing that frames views of the greenery like moving paintings that change with the seasons and times of day.
The house serves as a retreat for a family of four, offering direct contact with nature and a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere.
