A comprehensive architectural and interior design project for a house on the Oder River
KR House
2024–2026, Siadło Dolne
KR House | This comprehensive architectural, interior, and landscape design project was developed in response to the challenging site conditions and restrictive zoning regulations. The design concept is based on a reinterpretation of the 1970s brutalist architectural motifs favored by the clients.
The building is situated on a slope descending toward the Odra River valley, a factor that significantly influenced the spatial layout. Although the house lacks a basement, it functions on three levels. This allowed for the creation of a living space with a ceiling height of nearly four meters, enclosed by a tall truss that serves both structural and decorative purposes, as well as a fully usable attic without sloping ceilings.
An integral part of the design is an “urbanized” garden, shaped by a system of cascading retaining walls made of exposed concrete. These walls form terraces, elongated water features, and seating areas, organizing and simultaneously physically reinforcing the challenging topography of the site.
The house’s architecture is based on a minimalist design language, with concrete serving as the predominant finishing material. Deep-set windows, skylights, and the consistent use of concrete cladding reinforce the relationship between the interior and its surroundings, emphasizing the building’s raw character.
